Get the apps (desktop and Android)

You do not need an app store, and there is nothing to buy. VNClagoon runs in the browser, and the installable apps are an optional upgrade for working offline, for native notifications, and for a launcher icon that opens straight into your organization.

Your organization runs on one cell, and the cell has its own download store and its own apps.

  • VNClagoon (an address such as portal.vnclagoon.com) installs the VNC-named apps: VNCchat, VNCmail, VNCtask, VNCcontacts, VNCfiles, VNCchannels.
  • SRC Advisory (an address such as portal.src-advisory.com) installs the SRC-named apps: SRCchat, SRCmail, SRCtask, SRCcontacts, SRCfiles, SRCchannels.

The two families are separate apps, not two skins of one app. Each has its own package id, its own launcher name and icon, and its own sign-in. That is deliberate: the SRC apps talk only to the SRC cell, and the VNC apps talk only to the VNC cell.

The rule that saves the most support calls: install the app from the portal you sign in to. If you sign in at portal.src-advisory.com, install the SRC apps. A VNC app cannot sign you in to SRC, and the SRC app cannot sign you in to VNClagoon, even with the same email address.

What you get When to choose it
Browser Everything, always current, nothing to install The default, and the only option on a managed device that forbids installs
Installed web app (PWA) A launcher icon, an app window, offline reading Desktop or phone, no download, no admin rights needed
Desktop and Android apps Native notifications, offline write, file handling, auto-update You work in one product all day

The installed web app is described in Use VNClagoon as an app (PWA). The rest of this page is about the native desktop and Android apps.

  1. Sign in to your portal.
  2. Open Clients in the left menu.
  3. Each product has a card. The platform for your device is a download button; a platform marked Coming soon has no build yet.

Your portal’s Clients page always points at your own cell’s store, so it cannot hand you another organization’s build. If you cannot reach the portal, the store URLs are:

Cell Desktop and Android store
VNClagoon https://packages.vnclagoon.com/
SRC Advisory https://media.src-advisory.com/
  • macOS: open the .dmg and drag the app to Applications. Builds for Apple silicon and for Intel are separate downloads on the Clients card.
  • Windows: run the .exe installer.
  • Linux: run the .AppImage (make it executable first) or install the .deb.

Install each product you need. They are separate applications and can run side by side, including a VNC app and an SRC app on the same computer.

Desktop apps update themselves from your cell’s release channel:

  • the app checks shortly after launch and again every few hours;
  • when a new version exists it offers Download and install, Later, and Open download page;
  • when the download finishes it offers Restart now; Later still installs the update the next time you quit;
  • the tray menu has Check for updates if you want to look immediately.

See Desktop app updates for what each button does.

Android: the suite installer or a single app

Section titled “Android: the suite installer or a single app”

Android has no app store in this setup, so you install an APK directly. There are two ways, and both come from your own cell.

The suite installer (recommended). One small installer lists the apps for your cell, with the version of each, and installs the ones you tick:

Cell Installer
VNClagoon https://packages.vnclagoon.com/apk/VNClagoon-Suite-Installer-android.apk
SRC Advisory https://media.src-advisory.com/apk/SRC-Suite-Installer-android.apk

It downloads each app, checks its SHA-256 against the manifest, then hands it to Android’s installer. Everything is preselected, but Android asks you to confirm each app separately: no normal app is allowed to install several apps in one prompt. Tap Install on each prompt; the installer continues on its own after that.

If the installer stops right after downloading, Android has not yet allowed it to install apps. Turn on Allow from this source when it opens that setting, then come back: the installer continues where it was.

A single app. If you only need one product, install its APK directly:

Product VNClagoon SRC Advisory
Chat and meetings apk/vncchat-android.apk apk/srcchat-android-src.apk
Mail and calendar apk/vncmail-plus-android.apk apk/srcmail-android-src.apk
Tasks apk/vnctask-plus-android.apk apk/srctask-android-src.apk
Contacts apk/vnccontacts-plus-android.apk apk/srccontacts-android-src.apk
Files apk/vncfiles-android.apk apk/srcfiles-android-src.apk
Channels apk/vnchannels-plus-android.apk apk/srcchannels-android-src.apk

The paths in that table are relative to the store for your cell. For example the SRC chat app is https://media.src-advisory.com/apk/srcchat-android-src.apk.

Before the first install Android asks you to allow installs from the app you are using (Files, Chrome or the suite installer). Allow it once, install, then you can turn the permission off again.

Android apps update themselves from the same channel that installed them. The suite installer and each app read the version published for your cell, so an SRC app never offers a VNC build and the reverse.

On a phone that has never installed a VNClagoon app, Play Protect may say the developer is unknown, because these apps are distributed by us and not through Google Play. The build is signed; the warning is about the developer not being known to Google.

Tap More details, then Install anyway. If the option is not offered, tap Settings in the warning and allow installs from this source, then install again.

Never turn Play Protect off to get past a warning. If a build really is unsigned or a download looks wrong, stop and report it instead: the store for your cell serves the same bytes to everyone, so a mismatch is worth knowing about.

Use the installed web app: open the portal in Safari, then Share, then Add to Home Screen. The SRC native apps are Android-only for now; VNC builds for iOS are distributed separately and are not offered on the Clients page.

The apps show native notifications once you allow them. If you only use the browser, install the Notifications app from Clients (or from the bell menu’s Get the app item) to get OS-level notifications without keeping a tab open. See Notifications app.

The installer downloads every app and then no prompt appears. Update the installer to the current build (1.2.4 or newer) and try again: builds before that aborted on Android 14 before the system prompt. If it still stops after downloading, open Android Settings, Apps, SRC Suite (or VNClagoon Suite), and turn on Allow from this source.

The app opens but sign-in fails, or it asks for a login it never accepts. Check the app’s name. If you signed in at an SRC portal and the app is called VNCchat or VNCmail, you installed the wrong family. Remove it and install the SRC app from your portal’s Clients page.

Your phone shows the wrong organization’s name in the installer. You opened the other cell’s installer. The VNClagoon installer lists VNC apps and the SRC installer lists SRC apps; each bakes its own store, so they cannot be mixed up by accident, only by downloading the wrong one.

Android refuses to install, or an update will not install. An APK signed with a different signing key cannot replace an existing app. If the app was installed before this was standardised, uninstall the old app once and install the current build; later versions then update in place.

The suite installer stops on one app. That download failed its integrity check, usually a partial download. Run the installer again; it only retries what is missing.

The desktop app cannot reach the download server. Use Open download page from the update prompt, which opens your portal’s Clients page, and install from a machine that can reach it.

A product card is missing from Clients. Your organization is not entitled to that product, or its build for your platform is not published yet. Ask your administrator before downloading from anywhere else.
