Create and edit documents with VNCoffice-c
VNCoffice-c is the office entry point of the suite. It opens on its own address (and from the VNCoffice-c tile on the portal) and lets you create and edit documents, spreadsheets and presentations directly in the browser – with no software to install.
Everything you write here is stored in VNCfiles as a normal, versioned file: it belongs to the registry, the sharing and the search.
Create a new document
Section titled “Create a new document”- Open VNCoffice-c and sign in with the suite (one sign-in covers every product - see Sign in and sign out).
- Under New, select one of:
- + Document - a word-processing file.
- + Spreadsheet - a sheet.
- + Presentation - slides.
- Give it a name when asked. That name is the VNCfiles file name, so it is what you will see in All files and what the editor shows in its title.
- The editor opens in a new tab. Edit, then Save in the editor.
New documents are created in your Documents folder and, best-effort, shared with your team in one step, so a colleague can open them straight away. Adjust who can reach them at any time from VNCfiles (see Share a file or folder).
Open a file from this device
Section titled “Open a file from this device”Use Open from this device to upload a .docx, .xlsx or .pptx you already
have. It uploads into VNCfiles and opens in the editor in one step - the
uploaded file name is the document name.
Find a document
Section titled “Find a document”The search box lists the documents in the VNCfiles registry (newest first until you type). Type to narrow the list and select a result to open it in the editor. Back to files returns you to VNCfiles.
How a save is stored
Section titled “How a save is stored”- Every save is a new version. The previous content is kept, so you can see how a document changed and restore an earlier version from VNCfiles – see File versions.
- It is searchable immediately. A save is re-read and re-indexed on the spot (name and content), so a phrase you just typed is findable in search and across the suite - see Searchable across the suite.
Rename a document
Section titled “Rename a document”Rename it in VNCfiles (the row’s ⋯ → Rename). The editor reflects the new name the next time the document is opened; an editor that is already open keeps the old title until reopened.
One writer at a time
Section titled “One writer at a time”While a document is open for editing it is locked. If someone else tries to edit it at the same time, they get a clear refusal instead of overwriting each other. Close the document to release it.
When editing is available
Section titled “When editing is available”Editing in VNCoffice-c works for files whose bytes VNCfiles owns, in a folder that is not end-to-end encrypted:
- A file that is only a reference into another product’s storage, or
- a file in an end-to-end-encrypted folder (the server holds only ciphertext)
cannot be edited here and is politely refused.
