Install VNCfiles as an app
VNCfiles runs in your browser, but you can install it so it opens in its own window - like a desktop or mobile app - with its own icon and notifications.
Install it
Section titled “Install it”- Open VNCfiles in a supported browser and sign in.
- Use the browser’s Install option:
- Computer - select the install icon in the address bar, or open the browser menu and select Install VNCfiles.
- Phone or tablet - open the browser menu and select Add to Home Screen / Install app.
- Confirm. VNCfiles opens in its own window and is added to your apps.
Turn on notifications
Section titled “Turn on notifications”When VNCfiles asks, allow notifications. Installed, it can then send push notifications (for example, when something is shared with you) that open the item directly when you select them. If you block them, you can still see everything inside the app.
Updating an Android install
Section titled “Updating an Android install”The VNCfiles app for Android checks for a newer version shortly after it starts, and then periodically. When one exists you get a prompt with Update — the app downloads the update itself, verifies it and hands it to the Android installer — or Later. You do not need to visit a store, and your files are untouched by an update.
Good to know
Section titled “Good to know”- Installing is per device and per browser. To remove it, uninstall it like any other app on that device.
- The installed app is the same VNCfiles - your files, folders, sync spaces and sharing are unchanged. See Offline and sync.
- Installed, VNCfiles also opens with no connection: the app shell is cached, so a return visit or a dropped connection still renders the app. File contents are offline only for the files you keep offline - see Offline access and the app shell.
