VNCoffice
VNCoffice is the office layer of the suite: documents, spreadsheets and presentations, online in the browser and on the desktop, with a support and update model built for enterprises rather than for consumers.
The difference from a free office download is not the feature list — it is the long-term support commitment and the fact that documents live in the suite. An organization gets an office environment it can plan around for years, and files stay in VNCfiles with the suite’s permissions, versions and classification.
What it delivers
Section titled “What it delivers”- Online and desktop from one product. A user edits in the browser or in the installed desktop application, depending on the task and the device.
- Documents in the suite, not in a local folder. Files created and edited are normal, versioned files in VNCfiles — with sharing, search and governance.
- Long-term, multi-platform support. A defined support horizon for the platforms an enterprise actually runs, instead of an unscheduled upgrade cycle.
- Enterprise hardening. Deployment, configuration and updates are controlled by the organization, not by a consumer updater.
- No lock-in on the file format. Documents use standard office formats, so they can be exchanged with other tools and migrated out if needed.
Two integration paths
Section titled “Two integration paths”The suite embeds an office engine rather than inventing one. Two open-source office editors can provide the editing surface:
| Path | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Collabora | Browser-based editing integrated over the WOPI protocol; documents are streamed between the editor and VNCfiles and are never stored in the editor. |
| ONLYOFFICE | A full browser office with a document server deployed next to the suite; used where its editing experience or format support is preferred. |
Both paths deliver the same product outcome: create and edit in the browser, stored as a governed VNCfiles document. Which engine a deployment uses is an integration and deployment choice — it does not change the user’s data, file format or permissions.
Main capabilities
Section titled “Main capabilities”| Capability | What it gives you |
|---|---|
| Documents | Word processing, with review and formatting for everyday business documents. |
| Spreadsheets | Calculation, formulas and charts for working data. |
| Presentations | Slides for internal and customer use. |
| Browser editing | Open and edit from VNCfiles or the office entry point, with no software to install. |
| Desktop application | The installed office for offline and heavy editing. |
| Storage in VNCfiles | Every file is a versioned suite file with the suite’s permissions. |
| Co-editing | Several people work on the same document at the same time. |
| Standard formats | Common office formats for exchange with other tools. |
| Enterprise deployment | The organization controls deployment, update cadence and configuration. |
Typical use
Section titled “Typical use”- A team drafts a contract in the browser, reviews it together, and the final version stays in the project folder with its version history.
- A user who needs offline work installs the desktop application and edits the same files.
- An administrator runs a controlled long-term version and plans upgrades, with the platform support horizon known in advance.
How it fits the suite
Section titled “How it fits the suite”- VNCfiles stores and governs every document and provides the browser entry point.
- VNCproject, VNCchannels, VNCmail and VNCboard reference the same documents.
- VNClagoon AI can summarize or draft around a document, under the organization’s AI policy.
- VNCdirectory supplies identity and access.
| Role | What they do |
|---|---|
| End user | Create, edit and co-edit documents. |
| Team lead | Organise shared documents and review. |
| Administrator | Deploy and update the office engine, set formats and policy. |
