Create a channel

A channel groups related topics: a team, a project or a product area. When you create one you also choose who can see it, because a channel is private until you share it.

  1. Select + New channel.
  2. Enter a New channel name.
  3. Choose Who can see it:
    • Private (default). Only you and the people, departments or role groups you share it with can see it.
    • My department. Everyone in your department’s unit tree can find and read it. You can still share it with more people.
    • Everyone in the organisation. Everyone in the tenant can find it. Use it for handbooks, policies and announcements.
  4. Leave the parent on Top-level, or choose a parent channel to create a subchannel.
  5. Select Create.

The channel appears in the sidebar and on the home grid, with an access chip that states its audience (Private, Shared · N, Department or Organisation). You can change the audience later in the channel’s Settings, and you can share it with specific people, departments or role groups at any time.

A subchannel inherits its parent’s audience and can only be narrower, never wider. Sharing the parent also reaches its subchannels by default (see Subchannels inherit this channel’s members in the channel Settings).
